Offre de Postdoc : CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellowship in Systems Biology of Honey Bee Nutrigenomics

Postdoctoral Fellowships at CSIRO provide opportunities to scientists and engineers, who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships will help launch their careers, provide experience that will enhance their career prospects, and facilitate the recruitment and development of potential leaders for CSIRO.

This position offers you the opportunity to carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO with the possibility of novel and important scientific outcomes, and present the findings in appropriate publications and at conferences.

The Project 
Honey bees are essential pollinators, but are threatened by pathogens, pesticides and environmental stressors. The interactions between nutrition and genetics (nutrigenomics) underpin resilience to these stressors through developmental, behavioural and physiological responses. Using systems biology to understand honeybee nutrigenomics provides an innovative solution to securing bee health and agricultural sustainability.

CSIRO houses expertise in honey bee ecotoxicology and omics technologies that are vital to understanding multiple-stress response pathways. With assistance from the supervisory team and international collaborators, the Fellow will be expected to develop a computational modelling approach linking these areas with nutrition and environmental stressors, and guide experimental design for data collection and manipulative experiments.

Salary: AUD$83K – AUD$91K plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need: 

• A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as Bioinformatics, Systems Biology or Molecular Biology.
  Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years of relevant postdoctoral experience.
• Demonstrated capability to conduct innovative research in genome bioinformatics and molecular biology
• Evidence of experience and integrating analysis of data from multiple omics technologies, including but not limited to transcriptomics, metabolomics, proteomics and metagenomics.
• Demonstrated ability to develop experimental plans, originality in solving problems and pursue novel research approaches
• Demonstrated ability to meet performance deadlines under minimal supervision, and to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team to achieve shared goals through cooperation
• Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills, including publications in international scientific journals
• A record of science innovation and creativity, plus the ability & willingness to incorporate novel ideas and approaches into scientific investigations.
